The objective ingredient

Melon Extramel®, present in the Stress range, is a food supplement rich in superoxide dismutase (SOD), an antioxidant enzyme. SOD is naturally present in our body and plays a vital role in protecting against free radical damage.

It is used as a powerful antioxidant and for its beneficial properties in reducing oxidative stress, which corresponds to an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body's antioxidant defense mechanisms. Thus, melon Extramel® helps to reduce this stress by neutralizing free radicals and protecting cells against oxidative damage.

What is an objectified ingredient?

An objectified ingredient is an ingredient used in skin care products, cosmetics or dietary supplements. This ingredient has undergone rigorous scientific testing and evaluation to demonstrate its effectiveness and health benefits.

Objectification of ingredients involves clinical studies or in vitro studies to assess their effects on the body. These studies measure specific parameters and are then used to support claims about the ingredient's benefits.

The presence of objective ingredients in a product testifies to its effectiveness, because scientific evidence supports the claims made about them.

Analysis of the objectified ingredient

The effectiveness of this objectified ingredient has been demonstrated in two different clinical studies: the study by Milesi, M.-A, Lacan, D., Brosse, H., Doser D. & Notin, C. (2009) and the study by Carillon, J., Notin, C., Schmitt, K., Simoneau, G. & Lacan, D. (2014).

The first study conducted in 2009 was carried out with 70 adults experiencing stress and fatigue on a daily basis. A first group was supplemented with 10 mg of concentrated EXTRAMEL Melon juice (Melon SOD) per day for 4 weeks, while the second group took a placebo.

Following these 4 weeks, the treated group showed a significant improvement in the signs and symptoms of perceived stress and fatigue related to physical performance (sleep disturbances - 38%), cognitive (concentration, weariness - 22%) or behavioral (irritability - 30%) compared to placebo. Study participants also reported improved quality of life (+42%).

The second study carried out in 2014 was conducted among 61 adults with psychological stress and physical and mental fatigue. Similarly, the treated group received one capsule daily containing 10 mg of EXTRAMEL (Melon SOD), while the control group received a placebo.

At the end of the study, people in the treated group showed a significant decrease in perceived stress (-7.2%) as well as physical (-9%) and mental (-20.8%) fatigue . They also reported an improvement in quality of life (+7%).

The adaptogenic plant

Rhodiola, also known by the scientific name Rhodiola rosea, is a popular adaptogenic herb that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries.

Rhodiola is renowned for its adaptogenic properties, such as mitigating the effects of stress and anxiety. It promotes better adaptation of the body to emotional and physical stress.

It also has a positive impact on mood, reducing symptoms of mild to moderate depression.

Indeed, this plant has beneficial effects on mental fatigue and exhaustion and helps to increase energy. We therefore observe an improvement in physical performance, memory, concentration and better vigilance.

What is an adaptogenic herb?

An adaptogenic herb is a herb that contains natural compounds that help the body adapt and cope with physical, emotional or environmental stress.

The term "adaptogen" was first used by Russian scientist Nikolai Lazarev in the 1940s to describe certain plants with beneficial effects by increasing the body's resistance to stress.

These plants are commonly used in traditional and alternative medicine to support overall health and promote balance in the body. They regulate the hormonal system, strengthen the immune system, improve physical and mental endurance, reduce fatigue and promote recovery.

Each adaptogenic herb has specific properties and may offer potential health benefits.

Analysis of the adaptogenic plant

In the year 2000, Spasov and his colleagues carried out a study on students experiencing fatigue caused by stress during an exam period in order to evaluate the effect of an extract of Rhodiola rosea.

The study included 40 participants, 20 of whom consumed 100 mg of a standardized extract of Rhodiola rosea (SHR-5) daily for 20 days, while the other 20 participants received a placebo.

The results showed that the students who received the treatment based on Rhodiola rosea extract showed significant improvements in their physical fitness (+21%) , in particular in terms of neuro-motor functions (+51%) and general well-being (+9%).

In addition, these students reported a noticeable improvement in mental fatigue (+42%) , which was reflected in an improvement in the rhythm and need for sleep, as well as greater mood stability.

These results suggest that the consumption of an extract of Rhodiola rosea is beneficial for students in situations of stress and mental fatigue, by improving their physical and psychological well-being as well as their neuro-motor performance.
